Live kernel patching

Hi all,

Last year there were talks about live kernel patching in v4. Currently I'm using v4.xx. Is live patching here or I need to reboot after each kernel update?

Thanks

Re: Live kernel patching

You often don't have to reboot after updating the kernel and it has nothing to do with live patching but whether you need the modules to work.
AFAIK this feature is not a silver bullet, so yes, you still have to reboot once in a while, due to changes in kernel's internal data structures, which can't be applied with live patches. Consider using linux-lts if you would prefer to reboot less often.

Re: Live kernel patching

Or simply load the necessary module at boot.

I can. Mine is formatted ax ext4, not e.g. fat32.

The usb connection needs to load a module too -- the problem is not just the filesystems in use.
