Flag it out of date. Use the existing PKGBUILD to build the new version by simply changing the version number.
This forum is used for applications that are not yet in the AUR.

I think, what you are looking for is surfraw-cvs, not surfraw (stable)

We've all done it before, and honestly, it isnt the end of the world, your system won't collapse. People who maintain packages are volunteers. They have real lives to tend to. Give them time to update a package, if they dont after a long period of time send them a friendly email. In the meantime, dont be lazy, just update it yourself. abs + makepkg are easy for a reason.

Ehh.. I do it myself - all the time - and I find it a lot easier. Your one-line command will not install the application in accordance with Arch packaging guidelines - modifying an existing PKGBUILD will.
Each to their own, I suppose, but personally I cannot understand why an Arch user would not want to get everything they can out of makepkg and pacman.

sure, but Arch p-guidelines also did same thing to tarballs-nature itself.
PS: of course, it was my stupid ego and thought, IMHO.
P -> Q (P: hmm son of ..)
Q -> P (T: sure Because you said so.)
