Pulseaudio can't find remote speakers

Hi there !

I have set up a raspberry running volumio to support pulseaudio on the network with zeronconf. It works fine with my desktop and htpc (running elementaryOS and Debian respectively).

Unfortunately it doesn't from my laptop on Arch, I can't see any new audio output in pavucontrol or gnome sound manager.

I have pulseaudio running with module-zeroconf-discover on my laptop.

Does someone know how I can fix this ?

Thanks !

Re: Pulseaudio can't find remote speakers

I don't. sorry.  But, to be clear, this does sound to me like an Arch Linux issue on the laptop,   I make that assertion to avoid confusion as we do not provide support for the Arm based Raspberry-pi.

Re: Pulseaudio can't find remote speakers

Yeah I agree that's why I posted here !

Maybe there is a problem with avahi ? None of my devices appear in avahi-discover or upplay

Re: Pulseaudio can't find remote speakers

Did you try comparing setups? Just have a look at your desktop and your laptop, with probably the arch wiki as reference. There's also an arch pulse troubleshooting wiki.
Also check your paprefs.

Re: Pulseaudio can't find remote speakers

Well I just enabled the feature in paprefs on both, but nothing happened on Arch even after rebooting.

That's the only common point between the install though, none of my setups run pulseaudio the same way. Every distro seems to have its opinion about how to run pulseaudio ^^

Also, Arch use Pulseaudio 8.0 whereas all others have 5.0 or 4.0, incompatible versions maybe ?

Re: Pulseaudio can't find remote speakers

I compared pulseaudio loaded modules on both installs and did'nt find anything relevant. However I pretty sure now that the issue comes from avahi.

Here's the ouput I get on all my setups, except Arch, when running avahi-browse -a

I followed Arch's wiki to setup avahi-daemon, so I don't get it.

Re: Pulseaudio can't find remote speakers

Hey ! Coming back a few years later, I've reinstalled most of my network and computer systems by now.

I was still having an issue with Arch, and I found the solution while writing to ask for help here

Turns out the module isn't loaded via paprefs, so I edited /etc/pulse/default.pa and uncommented load-module module-zeroconf-discover and it works fine now
You can load it through pactl load-module to avoid reboot or restarting puseaudio.

Hopes this help someone someday.
