I just (yesterday) rebooted the computer. After that I try to start firefox and nothing happens (Opera works though). Also gaim is troublesome. The "buddy list" comes up fine but when I click on someone to send a message, it instantly kills iteself. The terminal also kills itself if I try to mark any text with the mouse. I can't get the panel up neither I mostly get this message when launching from the terminal.
(firefox-bin:4175): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
Using the fallback 'C' locale.
The program 'Gecko' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflectsw a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.
(Details: serial 785 error_code 1 request_code 153 minor_code 2)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behaviour. You can geet a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
There might be some minor type error since I had to read-and-write due to my schizofrenic terminal. I have not the slightest idea what this message means but help is greatly appreciated. This is like the third time arch changes something without telling me (I think).

[edit]
I found that someone did this before they had the same error.
I think that this error is from X.org because before i had x.org installed from RPM and work fine.
I recall changing something in the daemons-list not too long before this. (Also sshd and maybie some other daemons doesn't seem to launch all the time.)
Seems to be the same problem as: Can't start firefox after pacman -Suy here http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?p=160289#160289

You might want to define your locale in /etc/locale.gen
then run as root : locale-gen
and restart X

Take a look at http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … ko+request
You might be able to fix this by just doing a pacman -Syu but I have heard this didn't fix the problem for some people

I don't know how to define, nor which, local to define. I did a -Suy recently but I excluded the kernel due to problems with last update. Could that cause the error?

Are you still having this problem? I had something similar - xftaskbar wasn't working and firefox wouldn't start.
For the taskbar I just eliminated the weather plugin (there is some bug for it) and for firefox I removed my ~/.mozilla and it restarted fine.

It was libxfixes causing the problem.
