USB Ethernet Adapter sometimes not recognized in USB3.0 port

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 14. Since it doesn't have an ethernet port, I have an Anker USB Ethernet adapter--it's the USB 3.0 version.

Sometimes it works perfectly in all three USB ports. Right now, it does not. Right now, it works when plugged into the single USB 2.0 port, but not when plugged into either of the USB 3.0 ports; when plugged in to either of those, there is no indication at all from the OS that anything has happened--no messages in dmesg or journalctl or udevadm monitor.

The ports work for other USB devices just fine.

I have tried reloading kernel modules--cdc_ether, usbnet, xhci_hcd, xhci_pci, everything--but nothing has helped. Neither does rebooting. Whenever I notice that it's working again, it is never a result of any conscious act to fix it on my part. It just seems to reset itself somehow.

Is there any other information I should provide?

Thanks for any help you can give. Google has not helped at all.
