create OEM recovery Boot option

Hi all,

I am setting up a linux PC for a customer and would like to add a boot option which would put the computer back into its original state; factory-reset style.

I understand the best way is probably to have it boot into some environment and restore using a clone of the partition, but I cannot figure out how I would go about this.

Any pointers?

Re: create OEM recovery Boot option

I think I have seen some discussion about a rescue partition here recently, maybe that will have some pointers.

But in general I think Arch would be a bad choice to have as a recovery partition that gets cloned. The time this will be needed the Arch installation is likely so much out of date that your customer will run into pacman update issues.

Maybe performing some scripted reinstall would be feasible. After all the hardware is known and there can be a clear installation procedure. On the other hand that might also be outdated once the recovery is needed.
