Hello,
Earlier today I was trying to configure xbindkeys. All the Fn keys are recognised except for decrease/increase brightness keys (Fn+F5/Fn+F6 respectively).
I checked this using acpi_listen. I had no output from these keys.
My grub file is all default, although I also tried booting with this line added...
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet acpi_osi= "
then with this line added
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor"
with no luck.
Any help is appreciated, ask me for any info you may need.
Thanks

Any chance that xev sees them?

I have same problem with Asus X552M and I tried everything I found online...and nothing...
When I put "acpi_osi=" in grub line, notify works for brightness, but brightness does not change.

Yeah I was gutted when that argument didn't work. I've bound brightness to the keypad for the time being, but really want to solve this issue.

I've had to do the same on my ux305ca. Looks like it's a kernel level issue. Found the following bug log - https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=98931

Frustrating. I tried acpi_osi="!Windows 2012" just in case. Still nothing.
