SOLVED - Free space display on Thunar and Ranger

Hi,

I have both Thunar and Ranger installed on my box. I added an external drive yesterday with a view to using Rsync to back-up. I configured a mountpoint for it at /wdbackup,

When I browse to that directory in Ranger it shows 870G free. In Thunar (and Gparted) it shows 934.3G free. How can this be/how do I rationalise them?

Thanks in advance...

~S

My guess would be that one is measuring in GB and the other in GiB.

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan

In case you're not familiar with this situation:

one mebibyte 1 MiB = 2^20 B = 1 048 576 B
one megabyte 1 MB = 10^6 B = 1 000 000 B
one gibibyte 1 GiB = 2^30 B = 1 073 741 824 B
one gigabyte 1 GB = 10^9 B = 1 000 000 000 B

Yes - you guys were correct. I was aware of the difference but that didn't occur to me!

Thanks.
