As there is no proper flashplayer plugin for x86_64, what are people using to play flash content on web pages? I've seen a few F/OSS players but haven't tried them. Does anyone have experience with these and would be willing to give advice...?

I just compiled gnash-cvs but it segfaults when any flash movie starts playing in firefox. Has anyone tried one of these GPL flash players with x86_64 linux? I may have to migrate back to 32-bit if I cannot get flash working in Arch64.

Try gnash package in the community repo. If I remember right Notz told me that it's working for him.

You could try gplflash. I don't know if it works with x86_64, though.

Which browser was he using? I'm trying with firefox and it doesn't work. It doesn't even detect the plugin.

Where is the plugin installed? It should be installed in /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/
Maybe it's being installed in the old /opt/mozilla-plugins directory.

When I remember right Notz uses Konqueror for browsing.
Gnash had for me no effect using Firefox.

I think you have to build it with different configure flags if you're using firefox vs. another browser. I did get the latest cvs to build but when a flash movie tries to play in firefox it crashed with a segfault. I'll look at the PKGBUILD from arch64/community and see if it's built for konqueror and if so, I'll rebuild for firefox and test it out.

I'm building it now with Konqueror disabled and the prefix changed to the correct one. I'll report back when it's finished.

Okay, so, it still doesn't work for firefox. No segfault, but it just doesn't work. Anybody else care to give it a try?

it worked for me also with firefox. but in the meantime the plugin directory of firefox changed. so i think this is the problem now. there
is an option in the configure script to point to the right directory.
what shows about:plugins in firefox ?
p.s.: i have no internet access at home until next week, so i'm not able to fix the package.

A first alpha release 0.7.1 is out. A pkgbuild for i686 is in AUR. Try it out and report if it works for Arch64!

I have been trying this plugin in firefox and it mostly works.
Thanks.
I have had some instability that would occasionally cause kde to restart. An xserver crash I guessed. I initially tried checking memory and reinstalling nvidia, but then I noticed that it would only happen when I was opening certain pages in firefox. I removed the gnash plugin and have not had a problem since. I will look through the log files to see if I can find anything useful.

running gnash 0.7.2 from AUR now. looks stable so far and basic (mostly commercials) functions are working

gnash does not really work for me; it does not play most of the flashmovies I tested and it seems to have some memory-leaks. A few days ago it uses all memory it could get (nearly 3GB). But hey, it`s just an alpha. ;-)
