Kernel 4.5 breaks savage and systemd-modules-load (LTS)

After upgrading to 4.5 startx fails to load with the same error stated in this post.
The difference, and this is the reason why I don't find it suitable to "hijack" that thread, is that I do not use Virtualbox.
Thus the workaround posted there (testing pending), and its removal once a new version of that package comes out would not fit my needs. I still want to be sure once I run the related test.

Additionally, after Xorg failure I rebooted and used the LTS kernel which I use as cheap fallback option. With that kernel startx runs fine but I too noticed that since the 3.5 update the systemd-modules-load.service fails.

Once I downgrade the kernel to 4.4.5 it starts startx correctly and the systemd-modules-load.service does not report any failure when using the LTS kernel.

I do not know the relation though, presumably, it may simply mean that the LTS kernel (systemd even?) needs to be updated to cope with the recent changes in the main kernel?

If so, that would leave the savage break as the only pending problem. As I do not use Virtualbox, as already mentioned, I guess, if the workaround works, it would be a permanent addition to the kernel parameters until further notice...

EDiT -

Adding the workaround to the (main) kernel parameters fixes the X crash and, to my surprise as I (still) do not see quite the relation, when loading the LTS kernel the systemd-modules-load.service does not fail.
I guess the pending question would still be, as I stated in the last part of my previous message, if this is a temporary addition or a permanent one.
