Network printer won’t complete pages

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Canon Pixma MG2950 printer/scanner. I managed to integrate it into my home network. It’s wirelessly connected to a router (fritz box 7170) with a static IP. I can ping it.
On a machine running Windows 7, I could install the printer using the IP, but not using the wizard. There, it does work flawlessly, although it sometimes takes minutes until anything happens (I don’t know why).

On my laptop running arch, I installed cups and the gutenprint package, using the default cups configuration. At http://localhost:631, the printer is automagically detected as a network printer, and the automatically used connection is a long string looking like "dnssd://Canon%20MG2900%20series._printer._tcp.local/?uuid=the printers MAC number is here".

Printing a test page from http://localhost:631 results in this message: Unable to locate printer "646544000000.local". Adding "192.168.178.28 646544000000.local to /etc/hosts results in the test page being printed.
BUT: It only prints about a third of the page, and I get an error message: "Remote host did not accept data file (32)."
Also, all cancelled jobs then start printing but stop after a couple of lines. No page is completed.
I can also get the same behaviour by modifying the printer to lpd://192.168.178.28/

nmap 192.168.178.28 shows:

Starting Nmap 7.12 ( https://nmap.org ) at 2016-04-21 10:42 CEST
Nmap scan report for 646544000000.local (192.168.178.28)
Host is up (0.073s latency).
Not shown: 998 closed ports
PORT STATE SERVICE
80/tcp open http
515/tcp open printe

Do you have any idea why the printing might stop constantly, and not finish printing pages?
Oh, and small text documents (one page) actually print to the end. I assume it might have something to do with the size of the print job.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Network printer won’t complete pages

For reference: This problem was solved by stopping avahi ("avahi-daemon.service" and "avahi-daemon.socket")

edit: I was wrong, the problem was not solved. Instead, I returned the printer and bought an HP OfficeJet Pro 8610. Things work now.
