gnome 3.20 upgrade - no background

Since the latest gnome upgrade (to 3.20), the default background doesn't show randomly after login; sometimes it comes up; sometimes the background remains white.
- Restart doesn't solve the issue all times; can't reproduce it
- Deleting .cache doesn't solve it.

Re: gnome 3.20 upgrade - no background

This happens occasionally on my wife's old Eeepc. Killing nautilus means the background reappears. Running the file manager (nautilus) briefly gets her desktop icons back.

Re: gnome 3.20 upgrade - no background

Turning off Icons on Desktop in GNOME Tweak Tools solves it until a real fix is published. I am in KDE currently, so that may not be the exact name of the setting...

Re: gnome 3.20 upgrade - no background

Thanks gents for your comments
it works by killing nautilus (everytime). What's wrong with Nautilus???

Re: gnome 3.20 upgrade - no background

I have exactly the same issue (after upgrade to 3.20). Background shows up either if nautilus is killed or setting "show icons" is turned off (which does not help since I want behaviour I had before -- both icons and the background image). That's weird.

Re: gnome 3.20 upgrade - no background

Confirmed here too on one of my laptops, but not on two other laptops and 2 desktops. Have deleted all gnome settings, but the problem persists. Interestingly, it is also present on nemo on the affected laptop (fork of nautilus), which makes me think the new problem is not nautilus as such.

The desktop background appears briefly, then is replaced by white. I have no ides why only one of my laptops is affected.

A workaround is to use gnome tweak tool to run "files" as a startup application, but then you get an open window on your desktop every time you login.

Re: gnome 3.20 upgrade - no background

Arch Gnome - normally working background (with suspend bug that funny scramble background - nvidia drivers bug)

when enabling desktop icons - the background instantly going white
when disabling desktop icons - the background go back to my background

when desktop icons are enabled, changing background don't get any efekt, always white, no matter what i do

Some one else have thee same problem?

Re: gnome 3.20 upgrade - no background

I don't generally run icons on my desktop. However, when I toggle on that setting with Gnome 3.20.2 I do not have the symptoms you seem to show. It works great for me actually. However, I still don't like icons on my desktop, so I'm turning the option off again ;-)

I don't really know what I'm doing.

Re: gnome 3.20 upgrade - no background

Interestingly, changing the theme makes the issue disappear. Therefore, this issue seems to be related to the issue with the Numix theme. I think this thread can be marked as solved now.

Re: gnome 3.20 upgrade - no background

I'm using gnome 3.10.2 with adwaita theme and I get the same problem
changing the them to HightContrast or killing the process of nautilus, I can see the background with icons
it seems a css problem.
Sometimes at system startup all is ok instead in other cases no

It should soon be resolved
