Hi,
When I plug jack headphones into my laptop, PulseAudio doesn't switch to them. They are not mentionned in GNOME's control panel, and in pavucontrol they are marked "unplugged". However, when I swith to these "Headpĥones (unplugged)", they work.
How can I enable PulseAudio to detect my headphones, and automatically switch to them when they are plugged ?

Run alsamixer from a terminal window. Select your physical sound card. Check the controls that are available to you. Look for things like auto muute and play with the settings to see if yo can change the behavior.

Yes, I can enable the headphones from there, but I also could with pavucontrol. What I didn't find how to get is detection of the headphones and auto-switching when I plug/unplug them. I can manually switch to the jack, but it is always marked "unplugged", and therefore PulseAudio never switches by itself.
I didn't found anything called "automute" in alsamixer, and I don't think the problem comes from these settings : the headphones are not detected at all.

Well, that is unfortunate. My system does have the auto-mute PIN, and it is the magic.
What are the output of aplay -Ll ?
What are the contents of /var/lib/alsa/asound.state ?

Bump ? Can somebody see what's wrong ? I really need PA to detect the headphones, so that I don't have to go in pavucontrol each time I plug them.
Strangely, when the headphones are plugged and enabled, sometimes PA switches back to the speakers when I unplug the headphones. Just sometimes. And they are still never detected.
