Hi
I am having trouble not with devices being recognised but being displayed with two icons on my desktop.
I think it may be because I have hwd and hal in my daemons array would this be correct?

I don't think hwd would be necesarry anymore since udev handles module loading.
Hal makes gnome/kde/whatever able to see when new hardware is connected and get info about that hardware - I'm not sure if all apps work fine if you turn it off, so I would reccomand you to disable the desktop icons for the volumes instead if you don't want them - if you use gnome, that would mean uncheck apps -> nautilus -> desktop -> volumes_visible

Yup, I think jaboua is in the right track... if you are a KDE user right-click on the desktop --> select Configure Desktop --> Select Behavior --> Device Icons and uncheck "Show Device Icons" or uncheck the device icons you do not want.

OK so I will disable hwd and see what happens and then also adjust the icon settings.
Using Gnome, where is this "Apps"-> "Nautilus" stuff?
