Hi there,
This morning I updated the kernel, and installed nvidia driver.
When I run startx it fails. The tail of Xorg.log shows
(II) Setting vga for screen 0.
(**) NVIDIA(0): Depth 24, (--) framebuffer bpp 32
(==) NVIDIA(0): RGB weight 888
(==) NVIDIA(0): Default visual is TrueColor
(==) NVIDIA(0): Using gamma correction (1.0, 1.0, 1.0)
(--) NVIDIA(0): Linear framebuffer at 0xC0000000
(--) NVIDIA(0): MMIO registers at 0xD0000000
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device!
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.
Fatal server error:
no screens found
An additional line just above the first (EE) line in the log appears only on the console startx was run.
NVIDIA: could not open /dev/nvidia0 (Input/outout error).
Same happens both for regular user and root.
I tried chgrp /dev/nvidia files to video, with no difference in the result.
This card runs 3D o.k. with the FC5 64-bit install on this computer with the same driver. So, this is not a hardware issue.
My kernel is
/home/yavuz ROOT pacman -Q kernel26
kernel26 2.6.16.14-2
Nvidia driver is from [testing] (8756).
AMD 64 3700+/ GPU 7600 GT
What I should try next?
Thanks in advance...

After I downloaded full kernel sources, built my custom monolithic kernel, and booted into it, I reinstalled the Arch driver package, and everything is working now.
After each reconfig/rebuild a reinstall is necessary, but that is as it is supposed to be, according to package documentation.
