GNOME 3.20 and GNOME Shell's high CPU usage

As in title, since the last upgrade GNOME Shell is using an huge amount of CPU doing basically nothing.

A possible reason for this issue seems to be given by the following message in the logs

mag 17 09:18:04 ioi-server org.gnome.Shell.desktop[25109]: No bp log location saved, using default.
mag 17 09:18:04 ioi-server org.gnome.Shell.desktop[25109]: [000:023] Error(clientchannel.cc:159): ClientChannel::Create failed, https://hangouts.google.com is not an allowed URL.

but I can't seem to find what is causing it. Moreover, I have no Google Account configured in gnome-online-accounts, and that message seems to repeat about four times per second.
