I've downloaded some of the fonts suggested on Wiki but I still get this boxes-with-numbers-in-them (even on Wiki). How can I enable all the fonts (or at least the most common)?
/Richard
If you must have must. Have must.

Add to xorg.conf in "Files" section:
FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/dir_where_font_is"
Weird though, XFT should take care of this stuff.

do you have either xorg-fonts-100dpi or xorg-fonts-75dpi installed?

try enabling bitmap fonts:
ln -sf yes-bitmaps.conf /etc/fonts/conf.d/10-bitmaps.conf
fc-cache -f
and logout of X. Be warned though, these fonts are off by default because they make some look like crap. You can always revert back by using the symlink line with no-bitmaps.

No I don't. Installed *-75dpi. Should I install both? If it doesn't work I'll try enabling the bitmap-fonts. Don't want fonts that "look like crap" though. But rather that than squares with numbers in them...

Nope. now I have both (100/75dpi) installed and no improvement.
