Best TTS engikn

What is the best TTS engine that is natural sounding. I have just installed espeak and it is terrible. I can't even understand what it is saying.

I need TTS because I don't find reading easy. I have used SpeakIt which sounds great but is only browser based. I also want an pdf application that use these voices and read out selected text

Re: Best TTS engikn

I have thought a lot on the topic "why there is no such a thing as a quality TTS engine for Linux". I have come to a conclusion that this sort of software smply doesn't fit well into the model of continued shared efforts on gradual improvement of a free product. Some free quality engines that exist are usually created by some company and usually come as an add-on to some their product.

@declan.marks, with respect to your duplicate thread, I presume that you opened it because of the typo in the thread title. You can use the edit button on your first post to edit the thread title.

This ubuntu thread may give you some ideas.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Here is described how to use a Firefox browser TTS add-on for reading local PDF files. (Didn't try it, though.)
