Creating custom resolution

I have an LCD monitor with a resolution of 1366x768.
When I connected it to the VGA port of my laptop, it got set at 1360x768.
I tried creating a custom resolution for this monitor (Viewsonic VA1913wm) following the Xrandr wiki page but got stuck practically in the beginning.
When running:

crt 1366 768

I get

Modeline "1368x768_60.00" 85.25 1368 1440 1576 1784 768 771 781 798 -hsync +vsync

I tried continuing just the same with the procedure and added the custom resolution (1368x768_60) but whenever I select it, the monitor continues to show a resolution of 1360x768.
I'm using Gnome as my Desktop Environment.
How do I solve this issue?

Re: Creating custom resolution

Well the most obvious "solution" is that your monitor may not support 1366 x 768. Is 1360 x 768 really that big of a deal though?? Its only 6 pixels. Also, I doubt using 1368 is going to work wink.

If you really need to mess with the custom resolutions, perhaps you might have better luck with an xorg.conf file. See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/xo … r_settings and possibly https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Multihead

Re: Creating custom resolution

It is my monitor that is showing a message with the recommended resolution for this monitor.

Those 6 pixels ruin the sharpness of the image.

When I'll have time I might experiment with a .conf file.

Re: Creating custom resolution

What type of interface does the monitor use?  Is is a direct connection (LVDS), or do you have some kind of digital link? HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort?  Or is it an analog link VGA/SVGA/XGA/UXGA ?

Edit: Reread your post.  VGA -- Sorry about that.
It actually isn't, but it doesn't matter -- it is analog.  You should be able to null out those six pixels using the OSD menu of your monitor.  Play with the display width and left edge settings.  I assume you are seeing about five vertical blurry lines on your display.  Asyou change the width on the display, it should drop to 4 then 3 then 2....   If you get more, you are going the wrong way.  When you get it right, there may be 'noise' in the picture.  Adjust the clock phase (another OSD control) until it settles down
