I can only surmise that a release is immenant.
And I can't spell.

That's just because initscripts was updated to 0.7.2-1. From my past experience, a release might not be as immanent as you think.

ftp://ftp.estpak.ee/pub/archlinux/0.7.2/iso/i686/
I tried it and it is a new release.

Are you sure it isn't a beta?

arch-0.7.2-ftp.iso ISO 12,262 KB 2006.05.04 16:54:00
Looks like someone started to upload the ISO, then found a mistake und stopped the upload...

I think it looks like a CD install only image.

It's a prerelease of the 0.7.2 FTP installer. This installer was made because an installer is never up2date and it's easier to test a small 15MB installer than a huge 300MB installer with everything included.

lol ok I mixed up english comma-writing with german. I thought, the file was 12 KB big, not 12 Megs...

I used this tiny 0.7.2 install iso last week end, works great

So, is it for real?
and does users of 0.71 will notice it?

You should release such a small iso too, officially for every new release.
I agree! Cheers!

So why is it not official yet? I >seem< to have upgraded to gimmick without knowing it too...

The same happened with 0.7.1. Noodle
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

So why is it not official yet? I >seem<to> 0.7.2-2)
-> From pacman.log, which upgrades the version number in a few files.

Remember guys, Arch uses a rolling release system. This means that a 'release' is just a 'snapshot' of the repositories at once stage in time.
As it has yet to be released, that snapshot has yet to be done.
So a release in a rolling distro isnt quite a big deal, it's not like you're 'upgrading' to a release, it's just what you would get if you'd Sy'ed anyway.
Why isnt it official yet? the snapshot hasnt been taken.

After a pacman -Syu, everything should be changed to 0.7.2, if not file a bug report.

After pacman -Syu I get 0.7.2 Gimmick? Or there is still 0.7.1 label after boot?
All the boot message shows is the current version of initscripts you have installed.

I love how this is a rolling release distro! First off it saves cds (I make my own back-ups ocasionally..but im not forced to in order to use the "best" stuff
like in Fedora or Suse) My god this is a great distro! ..sry I was just overcome by emotion there.
In this land of the pain the sane lose not knowing they were part of the game.

So what defines what release you have. If it's only a set of packages, then anyone who runs 'pacman -Syu' will have Gimmick? I was looking at the stats for archstats and the lowest release is 0.4. Has that computer just never been updated?
