I am tring to get Impress to playback a presentation I have been sent that has had mp3 media added to it.
It is a PowerPoint presentation, it works on my MAC so the tags are good.
I have tried to create my own presentation with mp3 inserts but I get:
"The format of the selected file is not supported."
How would I fix this?

I'm not sure if it works, but a quick google came up with this.

Ah just found that one myself...thanks for the google work though......:)
It appears you need to install the Java Media Framework mp3 plugin.
Just trying it now, without much success

Does Arch j2re come with JMF?
Offline
I guess not.
The Java Media Framework API (JMF) enables audio, video and other time-based media to be added to applications and applets built on Java technology. This optional package, which can capture, playback, stream, and transcode multiple media formats, extends the Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) for multimedia developers by providing a powerful toolkit to develop scalable, cross-platform technology.
Looks like you first need to install jmf.

Check the new JMF package : http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=11728
It includes the MP3 plugin that works on Linux (you'll need to run a command to register it in the JMF plugin system)
Also, the JFFMpeg package adds a lot of audio and video codecs to the JMF plugin system, (including OGG/Vorbis)
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=16648
You can run a demo player for testing video and audio playback capabilities : "java JMStudio" (part of JMF package)
UPDATE:
Added wiki article explaining how to install and configure JMF , and also adding JMF support to OpenOffice.org
