[SOLVED] MATE - What's up with this Desktop Environment?

Hi,
there's a lot of time since MATE 1.14 was released and MATE 1.12 was flagged out of date, but in ArchLinux we are still with the 1.12 version.

In the Manjaro web page I've read "After a little struggle we decided to maintain MATE on our own, since Archlinux has no active maintainer anymore for this destkop environment."

Are they right? Why is Martin Wimpress still as maintainer if there's no maintainer? How can a Desktop Environment officially supported by a Linux distribution lose it's maintenance? Is it sticking to KDE the only way to have no worries about discontinuation over the years in Linux?

Because Arch sucks and it's only 45% obsolete.

I've been using Arch for years and when something like this arrives, there is always someone who takes the package.

If you want to discuss or just read about it, subscribe to the mailing lists. A novice user wants to take the responsibility.
