Upgrading to the latest xf86-input-synaptics killed single click via touch. Double and triple tap still work, and single click works if I press the touchpad down until it clicks. Downgrading to the previous version (1.8.3-4) fixes the issue. Anyone else seeing this? I'm using an old Samsung 900X1B and everything usually works great.
[Actual answer is in second-to-last post by justasug (thanks again). Basically, add TapButton1=1 to your config.]

I don't really have answer to that, but have you tried xf86-input-libinput? synaptics is buggy on my touchpad and libinput works really well, might be different from yours though. You can read more from here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Libinput

Thanks. I'll give it a try later today and see what happens (things are going to be too busy for a while).

As pointed out in that other thread, the tap-to-click options are disabled by default now. To fix it either use the Option "TapButton1" "1" option in an Xorg conf file or change it with xinput/synclient for your device (both methods are explained on the Wiki).
Can anyone find an explanation why this was disabled by default in the driver?
Never mind, I found these:

Aha. Thanks, justasug. I like that approach a lot better and it Works For Me. Marking solved.
