Plasma 5.7 beta is now available for testing in the [kde-unstable] repo. See https://www.kde.org/announcements/plasma-5.6.95.php for release notes.
Remember that you need to have [testing] enabled. As usual, report packaging issues to bugs.archlinux.org with the [kde-unstable] label, and upstream issues to bugs.kde.org
There are Plasma 5.7 beta test days scheduled for next June 19th and 20th. If you want to help making next Plasma release better, see https://community.kde.org/Plasma/TestDays for info on how to join.

I hope that old Breeze splash and SDDM theme will be included. New one hurts my eyes with brightness and dull Windows 10 style.
Edit.
Filling a bug.

You can't change the background?

Not yet, I guess.

I can hack it around but it's not a solution.
Oh well, there's big button in kcm, and to think that I was hunting for /usr/share/sddm/themes/breeze/theme.conf
Now all I need to find another obvious config.

2 Bugs I have encountered so far:
-Konsole icon is missing in the window decoration. (The top left corner is just black)
-Session restore seems broken again? Everything was restored on VD 1.
Anyone else having these problems?

Konsole icon is shown as it should here. I don't use session restore...

Plasma only ships the holidays plugin. The akonadi plugin will be in the next akonadi release. The screenshot in the release notes is misleading, yeah. In the meantime you may use the events plugin plasmoid.

What madness is that new login screen. I hope they will change that... it's really far beyond just ugly.

@Arojas: thanks!
By the way some applications stopped working after the update...eg: mumble and cantata. It seems it has something to do with new systray.
They both just crash with segfault...

Are you using Qt 5.7?
Offline
Yes, but they're built against it. Yesterday (plasma 5.6.5 with qt 5.7) it was working.

You need to rebuild plasma-integration then. I was hoping to move Qt 5.7 to testing quickly and build Plasma 5.7 against it, but it's currently blocked in staging because of skrooge.

Ah ok! Thanks, i'll wait for your rebuild then (i'm not in a hurry!)

The only problem I've seen so far is with 'Icons-Only Task Manager'.
It seems that when I'm opening an application, the applet forgets some applets that were marked with 'Show A Launcher When Not Running'.
To make things even more interesting, in a dual-monitor setup, each applets will forget different applications depending on which monitor the application was started on.
Does someone knows if there is an open ticket for this? If not, can someone confirm this behaviour?

I have 2 versions of it. One for the new and old backend respectively. Which one are you using? The new backend-icon-only manager one seems to work fine here.
For me the panel lost transparency... Is it intended?

The old version of icon-only manager worked great.
To reproduce this problem with the new icon-only launcher you need to do this on a dual-monitor setup:
1. Put a panel containing an icon-only manger that has 2 applications (Ex: Dolphin and Konsole) on each monitor.
2. From the first display, start Dolphin using the icon-only task manager. (Both mangers are displaying the loading circle instead of the Dolphin application)
3. When the application has finished loading, it will be put on the first display. After this, the Dolphin Icon from the manager placed on the second monitor vanishes.
For me the panel lost transparency... Is it intended?
My panels also lost their transparency. I'm not sure if this is the intended behaviour...

Yes.
Copy the /usr/share/sddm/themes/breeze/ to /usr/share/sddm/themes/old-breeze/
Edit the /usr/share/sddm/themes/old-breeze/metadata.desktop
Change the lines
Name=Breeze
to
Name=Old Breeze
and
Description=Breeze Theme
to
Description=Old Breeze Theme
and use: http://i.imgur.com/1Ok7Zlj.png

It seems that this change will be postponed to the plasma 5.8: https://mail.kde.org/pipermail/plasma-d … 54868.html
and 'Revert all login screen changes as per VDG request until they have a consistent design': https://phabricator.kde.org/D1949

So my first two problems were a one time thing but noticed something else:
Akregator is missing its tray icon with kde-unstable&testing but with staging the icon is back o_O

Another small issue: it seems plasma on wayland session won't start.

I think it is a big issue if it does not even start...

With kwin 5.6.95-2 at least the wayland server starts. Still plasma doesn't run, need to investigate.

Wayland outputs this error message for me:
startplasmacompositor: Starting up...
This application failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin "wayland-org.kde.kwin.qpa"
in "".
Available platform plugins are: wayland-org.kde.kwin.qpa, eglfs, linuxfb, minimal, minimalegl, offscreen, wayland-egl, wayland, wayland-xcomposite-egl, wayland-xcomposite-glx, xcb.
Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Any Idea what went wrong?
