I'm not quite sure when this started, but /proc/input/devices reads
I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0005 Version=0000

S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input5

and my mouse now scrolls backwards! Frusteratingly, the only hits on google I see when I was researching this problem are "help! the kernel is detecting my touchpad as a ps/2 mouse!" So I haven't been able to research this problem much. Thanks for anyone who can help me with this, it is very annoying to have to scroll in reverse.

Scrolling "backwards" is a feature called "Natural Scrolling". You can turn it on or off.

BYD touchpad drivers seems to have been added only recently. File a bug at bugzilla.kernel.org and tell them what kind of mouse you use and that this driver mistakes it for a touchpad.
BTW, if scrolling is the only problem, I think you can reverse it with
Option "ButtonMapping" "1 2 3 5 4"

The natural scrolling feature doesn't apply to my hardware, because it is detected as a touchpad. The natural scrolling feature only applies to mice. I did include a similar workaround mapping in .Xmodmap but it doesn't work everywhere, only with some programs.

No, it doesn't.

Let me put it this way: the natural scrolling feature does not affect the behavior of my mouse.
