mtv video format (mp4 players)

Is there any way to encode .mtv format used by so called "mp4 players"? Can ffmpeg or mencoder or transcode do it somehow? Or is there any other way available?

Re: mtv video format (mp4 players)

According to Wikipedia .mtv files use the AMV video codec and "At present, there does not seem to be a utility that will convert AMV to any other format." Also, even though the players are said to be mp4, "this is not an MP4 file format."

Re: mtv video format (mp4 players)

I am aware of fact that it is not true mp4. My question is not how to decode these files, but how to encode them, i.e. how to convert avi into this format - on Linux.

Ah, I misunderstood, I though you had wanted to transcode from mtv to another format.

No. ffmpeg, mencoder, and transcode do not support amv video. There does not seem to be anythig on Linux that can encode to mtv video.

Re: mtv video format (mp4 players)

So there is no reason to buy "mp4 player", are there any other cheap portable video players available on market, which are usable with Linux?

mine has a video-format converter (to .mtv); which runs on windows.

there is no big deal; wine should open/install it.
but I would like a native code to do it.

Before I close the strangely distorted, ancient thread:

D  MTV             MTV format

...snip...
D A    adpcm_ima_amv   ADPCM IMA AMV
D V    amv             AMV Video

This is caused by mismatched tags. I've fixed it.
