[SOLVED] Is it compulsory to have a separate /boot partition ?

I am installing Arch Linux for the first time. But I am familiar with Linux (was using Ubuntu)

Now I am in the middle of an installation and I have one doubt. I am using UEFI , I have successfully created an EFI System Partition. Do  I need a separate /boot partition ?

In the beginners guide, its given :

"/mnt/boot is also recommended for mounting the (formatted or already existing) EFI System Partition on a UEFI/GPT system. See EFISTUB and related articles for alternatives."

But I don't prefer a separate /boot partition. I just want it to be a sub-directory in my / . What should I do ? Ignore the guide and move on with just mounting the root to /mnt ?

Please help me.

You have an "already existing" EFI system partition. You have to mount it somewhere (at least while you're doing updates or other maintenance). The guide recommends (/mnt)/boot for this. You can ignore the guide and complicate some things by mounting it elsewhere, but that doesn't change the number of partitions in any way.

For EFI systems $esp is mandatory but nothing else. The beginner's guide recommends using $esp as /boot because it would ease future maintenance.
