Hello,
i'm trying to configure audio over displayport or hdmi using the built in intel hd grpahics (4600 on core i5 4570-s).
i didn't find documentation on how to do it, so i'd appreciate your help...
the sound device is found by the system: i used lspci and got this those lines among the output:
00:03.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor HD Audio Controller (rev 06) //i think this is the device i'm looking for
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04) // the on-board sound card
01:00.1 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Device 0002 // sound function from the external graphics card (not in use)
thanks for your time

Read the Alsa and Pulseaudio articles in our wiki. There is not much to configure, it should wort OOTB over HDMI. Try alsamixer for starters.

umuted all the chanels in alsamixer, still dind't mannage to get it working. i think the system do not know that the monitor is plugged in - some output from "pactl list sinks" is:
Sink #1

Have you tried adjusting the settings using pavucontrol ?

iv'e downloaded this front-end and it confirmed my assumption from the previous port - the system sees this port as unplugged.

Describe what's on the other side and the cables/adapters you use.

The display is a Dell u2414h. I tried connecting with hdmi and with displayport. The speakers are connected directly to the monitor (besides a tiny extension cable). I've conformed that audio is working on the display by connecting a ps3 to the same hdmi cable.

Isn't this model the one which audio works over usb instead of over hdmi?

Nope, it has a USB upstream for its USB hub. Audio Is delivered through a regular analog port.

Sorry - I was getting this confused with using an AC511 soundbar over USB using this monitor.
The only relevant info I can find is...
http://en.community.dell.com/support-fo … t/19590468
and
http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questio … ystation-3
which mentions headphone output is not supported from this monitor - are you using passive or powered speakers?
Nothing else springs to mind at present.

Just regular speakers. (The main has an amp inside)
