Hi,
I have this little problem with thunar:
1. copy a file
2. create a new folder and cd into it
3. right click and try to paste the file into it (doesn't work since paste is greyed out)
Is this expected behaviour or do I have to install or configure something? Is there a workaround/fix?

I could not recreate your issue, however, you "cd" in to it. Do you mean you doubleclick to enter/open the folder, hence you are in thunar i mean.
I possess a device, in my pocket, that is capable of accessing the entirety of information known to man.
I use it to look at funny pictures of cats and to argue with strangers.

Thanks for pointing that out.
You are correct I just doubleclick the newly created folder.

In your environment, is selected text automatically copied to clipboard? I can reproduce the issue, but it's because the clipboard is overwritten by the text in the "Create New Folder" dialogue which is automatically selected.
1. Copy a file
2. Check contents of clipboard: <path of file copied>
3. Open "Create New Folder" dialogue (and create a folder or not)
4. Check contents of clipboard: "New Folder"

But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain - that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case, it is unfit to exist.

Thats it, shame on me.
I think I have to rethink my setup.
Thank you.

No worries, I have a love-hate relationship with that feature and I only noticed it by accident...

Yes, I know this situation! It has happened to me many times when using Thunar.
...Wait, the "highlighting text" clipboard is the same as the "copy file in Thunar" clipboard? I just assumed Thunar used its own clipboard for file copy operations...

...but if that were the case, this wouldn't happen would it?

I investigated a bit, because I thought it might be fun...
The Thunar source code has a clipboard manager. I don't know why the contents change when you create a new folder (if that's even what's causing the issue).

Make sure your clipboards (PRIMARY & CLIPBOARD) aren't merged or synced. If you are using the clipman plugin, there is an option there to sync/un-sync them.
I get the same behaviour if I sync my clipboards into one.

Yes, that makes sense in my case; I had forgotten I'd installed autocutsel
Description : synchronizes the two copy/paste buffers mainly used by X applications
and it didn't show up in my package searches for 'clip'.
