Hello everyone,
has anyone experience with Intel Skylake GPU on arch? When I let it autodetect settings without xorg.conf, Cinnamon crashes after login with libgdk exception.
I tried many combinations of:
1) DRI2/3 disabled,
2) different AccelMethods,
3) enabled TearFree,
4) kernel params (rc6, semaphores).
Only working solutions are:
1) disable DRI,
2) switch AccelMethod from SNA to UXA.
However both solutions have performance issues. So in the end I have bleeding edge GPU which does not work :-)
Any ideas?

There are some problems with xf86-video-intel, as it is badly maintained. People have reported good results switching to the modesetting driver (xorg internal, just remove any custom config and the xf86-video-intel package) for the time being, there are patches to help this slated for the 4.8 kernel as well from what I've heard. There are multiple threads on this issue already, search around a bit (one of the biggest ones being ill-titled as 'Firefox lags recently').

No major problems(1) here with the modesetting driver.
(1) I see some glitches when package c-states get to PC6 and PC7, but that seems to be a problem common to both modesetting and the intel driver.

Nice. It is working, no crashes so far. Performance looking good.
Thank you

OK, when I connect two monitors (DP, HDMI), problem is back even with modesetting driver.
Looks like the problem is not in AccelMethod, but in DRI. If I disable DRI3, it works, for now.

I understand there are a lot of bugs and have been quite a few patches for DP connections to monitors - is it possible your two monitor setup with one of them DP might be hitting one of the many DP related kernel issues?
