I couldn't find the answer to this in the wiki, and last time I remember trying this there was a problem. I'm sure people will say make a custom image with Archiso, but for whatever reason I can't get my Archiso image to boot on my laptop, while the regular arch image boots fine. I know my image is fine because it boots on other computers.
I've heard people say it is "not supported" but is there any reason I shouldn't try to install packages to the live install? Is it just a case of free space?

I use:
pacman -Sy tmux # why isn't tmux on the iso image?
Don't run that on your installed system though

They are not permanent. They last until you reboot -- Unless you remaster the iso

hello
because the installed app are temporal ; you will lose it if you reboot the live install until you make a custom build of arch!
but i think you don't mean that so please can you explain a little more.

In order to install new packages, you may need to update some existing packages.
Which is bad when you are installing them all into RAM.

Depends on what do you want, there is no need to remaster the ISO, you can use persistent mode if fit for you. Also there is no strict need to use tmpfs as COW space. See the README.bootparams documentation for more details.
