Speakers work, but headphone jack doesn't.

So, I have a Toshiba Satellite C55, and the headphone jack won't seem to work with arch so far.

"grep Codec /proc/asound/card0/code*" yields

pacmd list-sinks

so we can find out what pulseaudio thinks your sinks are. Use [ code ] tags instead of [ quote ] tags when posting terminal output

Does the headphone port start working if you switch the port manually in e.g. pavucontrol or with 

pacmd set-sink-port alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo analog-output-headphones

?  If it does, something in your jack detection goes wonky, is 

module-switch-on-port-available

enabled in your /etc/pulse/default.pa (it should be by default), if it is and it doesn't work you might have to try and listen on acpi events and preparing a switching script yourself[1]-

Another possibility is that simply your volumes aren't propagated properly, you could try to use 

alsamixer -Dhw:0

and disable the auto-mute enum to make the system not care if anything is in the jack and/or try to up the volume on the headphone control manually, as it currently is muted (as is your sink in pulseaudio in general, make sure to rule that out in your tests)

It's strange, the command didn't do anything even though my headphones are plugged in. Furthermore only speakers are listed in gnome's audio settings.

Edit: To add, it's not a hardware issue. I have two of the same exact laptops with the same setup and neither work under any GNU/Linux distribution, it's strange.

As said, your volume is currently muted, did you adjust that?
