Can VLC use ffmpeg3 instead of ffmpeg2.8?

As far as it looks like, VLC depends on "ffmpeg2.8".

Well, I am maintaining a customizepkg Patch for ffmpeg (the actual version), and I would like VLC to use that version. Maintaining two ffmpeg-versions seems to be far too much work.

Can VLC be told at compile-time to use ffmpeg3?

If that would be possible with the current version, it would link to ffmpeg3 already. Such support is likely going to happen with the new VLC 3.0 release at the earliest, so you might want to look at a vlc-git package.
