Automatic fan speed on nvidia

Hi, after using Arch on my Laptop for quite some time I also switched to it with my desktop (running Linux Mint before).
Everything is great except that I noticed that my GPU fans are always spinning at 39%. I googled a lot and found a lot on setting the speeds manually, but I remember that on Mint my GPU fan speed up automatically when the card was under load. I didn't monitor it, but I definitly noticed it while playing games.
Somehwere on the internet someone said that the speed would be controlled by the firmware, is it true? And if yes, why are my speeds now fixed at 39% and how can I "switch it to automatic"?

I have a GTX770 using linux-lts and nvidia-lts.
