Backlight: no intel_backlight in /sys/class/backlight

I tried to make xbacklight work using the wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ba … xbacklight.
only to find out I don't even have intel_backlight.
card is a HD 3000, Intel driver installed, latest regular kernel, the monitor is a TV via HDMI. (I have no regular monitor to try out if HDMI is the problem).
acpi_video0 is in the folder, but setting backlight via ACPI has no effect also, and I don't need this anyways.

I tried several kernel parameters I found in the wiki and in other topics here in the forum:

acpi_backlight=video
acpi_backlight=vendor
acpi_backlight=native
acpi_backlight=none
acpi_backlight=legacy
video.use_native_backlight=0
acpi_osi=Linux

none of those worked. some will make acpi_video0 disappear, but intel_backlight wont show up.
