cups-filters-1.11.2 breaks printing: "filter failed"

After upgrading to cups-filters to 1.11.2, all print jobs fail with the "filter failed" error. This is printing to an HP M477FDW. I would try downgrading, but I don't have the 1.11.1 package in my cache.

Anyone else seeing this issue?

I had the same issue, however the problem was in the upgrade of hplip-3.16.8-1

I downgraded back to hplip-3.16.7-1 and the issue resolved.

Re: cups-filters-1.11.2 breaks printing: "filter failed"

I have the same issue. It affects some printers, but not all, presumably depending on details of the filters used, though I'm not sure.

I've rebooted my machine just to ensure everything was restarted properly. I checked the wiki and none of the 3 issues there seemed applicable. (I'm not connecting by USB - this is a networked printer; avahi is running, although I don't think it is needed for this; nothing is out of date.)

I enabled debugging output and tried sending a test page to the printer. I think the relevant lines from the error log are these, but can supply other parts of the file if that would be helpful.

So it is indeed HPLIP which seems to be implicated here, though I'm not certain how best to handle it temporarily.

Arch bug: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/50588?s … &closedto=

Upstream: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1618398

The fix described there works. I've replaced hpps with the corrected version on my system as a temporary workaround.

Re: cups-filters-1.11.2 breaks printing: "filter failed"

Ok, it was indeed the hplip upgrade that caused the problem, not cups-filters. I downgraded hplip to 3.16.7-1 and printing is working again. I see there's a 3.16.8-2 build that's supposed to fix the issue, but it's not showing up yet, when I do `pacman -Syyu`.

I've confirmed on my system that hplip-3.16.8-2 does fix this issue and is now available via pacman upgrades.
