GRUB and GPT/BIOS on amd64/x86_64

I haven't used a bios system in a while, so while this might seem like an obvious question, I haven't come across it. When installing grub, when specifying the target, every example seems to mention i386-pc for mbr, and x86_64-efi for efi. What about when you are using a 64 bit machine with mbr? Does i386-pc cover all mbr systems? I couldn't find somewhere mentioning if there was another x86_64 target for mbr machines. Do I just specify x86_64 without the efi?

Yes.

However, GPT support for non-UEFI booting is firmware-dependent and may not work at all.

I've heard this is just a myth.

Thanks!

It's not a myth. I've seen it.

WTF kind of comment is that?

I thought you were being sarcastic, apparently my sarcasm detector broke. My bad.
