PPP (Parallel Port Problem)

Hi!

Can anyone tell me if I have to activate my parallel port to get it work? I've connected some hardware device to it and want to use the official program which is a java program for linux, in order to configure it. But whenever I want to open the menu where to choose which port it is connected to, the program pops up an error message which says, that there's no port available to choose. I'm sure it works, because I had the program running on linux (Debian) before and it worked perfect.

So is there anything which I have to set up like I can du with serial ports using the setserial program? The modules ppdev,lp,parport_pc are loaded successfully.
Can anyone help me?

Thanks!

Re: PPP (Parallel Port Problem)

I am not a specialist of ppp, but does dmesg or lspci return something after plugging your device ?

The program isn't debugged until the last user is dead.

Re: PPP (Parallel Port Problem)

No, it doesen't. I checked it out using dmesg, lspci and lshwd and there was nothing. That's why I thought that there might be something to set it up in order to get the parallel port work. I'm only confused because the set up program for this device worked almost out of the box on Debian Linux. So the port definitely works, but unfortunately it woun't find any usable port on Arch..... sad

Re: PPP (Parallel Port Problem)

And does it require some specific kernel module ? Maybe you can compare your old debian kernel configuration file and archlinux one.

Re: PPP (Parallel Port Problem)

That's the weird part about it. The kernel configuration is the same I had running on debian (except some extra modules from the beyond patchset). So the kernel shouldn't be the problem.....
