VLC 2.2.4-3 Memory Leak (acts like forkbomb)

I'm using vlc 2.2.4-3
when i open files (i tried MP4 - MKV - VOB) sometimes it is ok but most of times, after a while my Memory and Swap will fill and my system come halted, i have to reboot my system! i tried to open that files with mplayer and smplayer and there is no problem!

Is there any same experience?

I had this issue when video output was set to "automatic". No clue which output it actually used, but setting it to vdpau fixed it for me.

Seems my problem is opposit of yours smile when I set it to vdpau, I have problem and when set to others like OPENGL GLX Video Output (XCB) there is no problem neutral
i think it is a bug and i should report it

Re: VLC 2.2.4-3 Memory Leak (acts like forkbomb)

I'm experiencing this issue as well (running an HP Envy 17T-s000, which has onboard Intel, but no dedicated GPU)

The leak does not occur when video output is set to:

  • OpenGL GLX video output (XCB)

  • X11 video output (XCB)

  • Simple DirectMedia Layer video output

  • Color ASCII art video output

  • ASCII-art video output

  • OpenGL video output (experimental)

  • Disable

The leak also doesn't occur when video output is set to "XVideo Output (XCB)", "GNU/Linux framebuffer video output", "Video memory output", "Dummy video output", or "Statistics video output", but also no video displays with these settings.

The leak does occur:

  • whether or not "Accelerated video output (Overlay)" is checked

  • when video output is set to "Automatic" or to "VDPAU output"

  • when video output is set to "YUV video output", even though this does not actually display video
