SDDM hangs when transitioning to KDE Desktop

Hello all,

since the most recent update I've had an issue where sddm seems to freeze for several seconds (feels like half a minute but I could just be impatient) before logging me in. After typing my password, it goes to the splash/transition screen for the desktop, and the plasma 5 loading bar appears, but the loading bar freezes right at the last step before completion.

Output of 'systemd-analyze blame':

Re: SDDM hangs when transitioning to KDE Desktop

We are already past SDDM at that point, the splash screen is part of the KDE startup. You could disable the login splash entirely, which should give at least some sort of improvement. The splash screen also has a minimum duration, so that it can be shown at all, but I don't think that that last step explicitly is part of it.

Re: SDDM hangs when transitioning to KDE Desktop

I've had the same problem, if I understand correctly: On one of my machines since the dbus 1.10.10 removing libdbus upgrade and since I solved the problem with dbus not being started (FS#50543), the splashscreen progressbar hanged for some noticeable seconds (notice that before the upgrade there was no hang, the animation began immeadiately). I do not have the problem on other two machines which I upgraded so far. Apart from the dbus problem, the machines differ in hardware the problematic one being AMD with AMD integrated graphics (oss drivers) the others Intels. However, doing system upgrade of the machine now, merging the /etc/sddm.conf.pacnew, and making sure all the remnants of my 2014 experiments with systemd-user started X services (which needed lots of custom configs and units concerning dbus and X), the problem disappeared. So I guess that either the upgrade or getting rid of the outdated systemd configs helped.
