Printer settings ignored or fixed by some applications

I'm working with KDE Plasma (KF 5) with an Epson XP-710 printer. As driver I use epson-inkjet-printer-escpr from AUR.

To facilitate use of the printer, I defined 3 printer settings, all for this one printer:
- standard, A4, single sided, quality - default printer
- duplex, A4, double sided, fast
- foto, 10x15 cm / 4x6 inches borderless, Glossy paper

I'm wondering why some applications ignore some of the settings I defined in cups when switching from standard to another printer. Examples:

Chromium: All changed settings are recognized.
Okular: All changed settings are recognized.

LibreOffice: Paper size is fix to A4 and can't be changed, duplex is recognized

Firefox, Thunderbird: Change of quality is recognized; paper size and duplex are ignored when switching from standard to another printer but can be changed manually. Duplex setting seems to be taken from last print and not from the printer settings.

Digikam: Paper size is fix to A4 - I can't change it. Grr. This could be done some weeks ago, but not today. Bug in digikam update?

Any idea why some applications ignore the printer settings - or don't let me change the paper size - for the printers I defined in cups?
