Virtualbox-UEFI not working after testing 5.1.6 bin

Hello guys

I have a question

From what file/from where read virtualbox nvram data?

Before boot fine when made installation in UEFI. (virtualbox 5.1.4)
Then I try 5.1.6-bin from yaourt, after uninstalling 5.1.6 and installing 5.1.4, now UEFI not work......show UEFI Boot shell

Why? what happen?

After some research, I discovered....a "fix"........from UEFI shelll.....need to change grubx64.efi, from EFI folder.....in bootx64.efi.

Why the helll...won`t work at first time?...and need to rename...that file to boot...

Tks

Re: Virtualbox-UEFI not working after testing 5.1.6 bin

Virtualbox UEFI is still beta. It does not store any configuration across reboot and boot only /efi/boot/bootx64.efi. It was documented that it was unable to boot Windows but I have not tried it and do not know the actual status. It may be better to use VirtualBox in Bios mode. Booting in UEFI mode will not provide you any advantage except if you have special need (like to study how it works or play with the UEFI shell).

It works with Windows 10 but not with previous versions of Windows.
Boot/bootx64.efi is default boot entry and since VirtualBox doesn't store added entries it can only boot the default.

Re: Virtualbox-UEFI not working after testing 5.1.6 bin

As I said.

Before playing with virtualbox-bin (5.1.6) UEFI start without renaming grubx64.efi to bootx64.efi.

https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/14279

After downgrade need to rename that file....

Re: Virtualbox-UEFI not working after testing 5.1.6 bin

According to https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch03.html#efi ; efi is still limited. efibootmgr or any settings done in an installation program cannot work without persistent efi variables support;  they are documented as not implemented. They document some "VBoxManage setextradata ..." that could be used to modify how the system boot however. Windows keep a copy of its bootmanager as /efi/boot/bootx64.efi and some linux distributions might do the same; maybe you already had /efi/boot/bootx64.efi ? Anyway say exactly what you have done; what you expect and what you obtain.
