No sound - aplay: no soundcards found

I installed Arch for the first time yesterday and, after a bit of help from the forum, I have a working install. However, I don't have sound yet.

I  have added myself to the 'audio' group and installed alsa-utils.

amixer sset Master unmute outputs:

amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such file or directory

alsamixer gives:

cannot open mixer: No such file or directory

aplay -l outputs:

aplay: device_list:268: no soundcards found...

I installed alsa-firmware, to see if that was the problem, but it didn't change anything.

Re: No sound - aplay: no soundcards found

if you go "sudo alsamixer" do any devices show up?
Also, does "cat /proc/asound/cards" show anything?

Re: No sound - aplay: no soundcards found

Thanks for your reply.

sudo alsamixer also gives 'cannot open mixer: No such file or directory'

cat /proc/asound/cards gives 'no soundcards'.

Re: No sound - aplay: no soundcards found

It's impossible for asound cards or alsamixer to give anything if aplay -l already turns up empty. Does

dmesg | grep -E 'snd|hda|ALSA'

give anything? What is your soundcard? Does

lspci -k

detect anything?

I don't think any of those are the soundcard.

The Asus website says the device has "SonicMaster Audio Technology", but I assume that's just marketing speak.

Re: No sound - aplay: no soundcards found

Digging around a bit, I've found that, unfortunately, there is no driver available yet.

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=115531

It's still a nice little sub-1kg laptop, so I'll just make do without sound until a driver is available.
