SMC2208 USB Ethernet Adapter

This adapter won't work correctly, even with the rtl8150 kernel module manually probed (rtl8150 is its chipset, I've used the module with other distros before).  Is there something I'm foretting to do?  I thought that hotplug and the automatic kernel module loading features would have taken care of it, but I guess not tongue

Any ideas?

Re: SMC2208 USB Ethernet Adapter

What do you see when you run ifconfig -a?
Did you configure eth0 in /etc/rc.conf ?

Re: SMC2208 USB Ethernet Adapter

Well when the usb adapter is connected you should find another ethX device when you run ifconfig.  Let's say its eth1, then you'll need to add eth1="dhcp" in your /etc/rc.conf (assuming you're using dhcp).  Then restart your network service via '/etc/rc.d/networking restart'.  Give that a shot and see what happens.

Re: SMC2208 USB Ethernet Adapter

I forgot one more thing in your rc.conf, below the eth1="dhcp" line there is a line that says INTERFACES=(...).   Add eth1 inside the parenthesis and then isse a /etc/rc.d/network restart.  See if that helps.
