[SOLVED] GPU Has Fallen Off The Bus

[ 306.063356] NVRM: A GPU crash dump has been created. If possible, please run
NVRM: nvidia-bug-report.sh as root to collect this data before
NVRM: the NVIDIA kernel module is unloaded.

There have been no updates recently related to NVIDIA or the kernel however I did have computer open yesterday for routine cleaning and routine replacement of one of the storage hard drives in a RAID array. All packages are up to date as of this morning. Kernel version 4.7.4-1-ARCH. Hardware in question is an NVIDIA 550TI from 2012. I don't believe I touched anything even near the video card but it's the only thing I can think of that has happened recently to possibly cause an issue. After noticing the video failure I used SSH to grab the end of the kernel log from dmesg. All entries before this point were routine. I also pulled the bug report log from NVIDIA, posted below. I just thought I would post here and see if there's some other reasonable explanation for this before ordering a new video card.

Start of NVIDIA bug report log file. Please include this file, along
with a detailed description of your problem, when reporting a graphics
driver bug via the NVIDIA Linux forum (see devtalk.nvidia.com)
or by sending email to 'linux-bugs@nvidia.com'.

Re: [SOLVED] GPU Has Fallen Off The Bus

Does it repeat often? Do you reboot after kernel upgrades or is it possible that this maintenance reboot yesterday started some kernel installed a week ago and never booted before?

If it's not kernel or NVIDIA driver then it must be hardware. Check GPU cooling.

Re: [SOLVED] GPU Has Fallen Off The Bus

Yes I had successfully rebooted with the current kernel and driver before this started. I had also attempted to boot with the installed LTS kernel. Both fail after approximately five minutes of uptime. GPU cooling seemed alright. I ordered a new card which isn't the end of the earth. Low-end cards are pretty cheap now. I would be very happy actually if I "knew" that it was definitely the card. I'm just nervous that I'll put in the new card and not have the computer fixed. Updates to follow soonish.

Re: [SOLVED] GPU Has Fallen Off The Bus

Does the card have a dedicated power supply?
Also watch all fan connectors!
Finally, just re-seat it into its slot (watch the connectors, maybe use a lens brush to clean things out)

This is usually some HW wonkyness and given the surroundings likely "some" weak connection "somewhere".

Re: [SOLVED] GPU Has Fallen Off The Bus

It was definitely a hardware malfunction. Solved with replacement of GPU.
