No GUI showing up [*SOLVED*]
I recently installed MATE beside gnome 3 (Not from the testing repo).
I logged out and logged in to MATE only to find out a black screen with a spinning wheel mouse cursor .
Waiting for quite a few minutes , I rebooted , and same thing kept on happening over and over again.
Since , I have automatic login enabled I cannot change the Desktop Environment from the login screen .
What can I do to resolve this issue ? ( I am using GDM )
Should I boot from installation disk and chroot to the root drive and change gdm settings ?
If that is the solution , then how ?

If you have a keybind for the terminal, say ALT + F1, then you might be able to bring up a terminal and do some work. AFAIK, if you are going to use a live usb/rescue disc, I doubt you'll be able to run any sort of X application with it. Therefore, you will likely have to edit the gdm files manually. If you have ssh access to the machine in question, that might work too. Something random to try might be to mash CTRL + C or CTRL + Z or similar to interrupt the process of the automatic login. That most likely wont do anything though

Okay . The solution was easy .
I chroot-ed to my root partition
And removed mate and mate-extras , with gdm too
And reinstalled gdm .
