Kismet fails to start

Hello,
I'm trying to start kismet , and here is what I get :
#kismet
Server options:  none
Client options:  none
Starting server...
Waiting for server to start before starting UI...
Will drop privs to esox (1000) gid 100
No specific sources given to be enabled, all will be enabled.
Enabling channel hopping.
Enabling channel splitting.
Source 0 (ath0): Enabling monitor mode for madwifi_g source interface ath0 channel 6...
FATAL: Failed to retrieve list of private ioctls 7:Argument list too long

I read on internet that the error should come from an outdated verion of kismet running with new  madwifi drivers. The fact is that I got kismet from unstable, and my system is up-to-date ...
Does anybody know what's the problem?

Thx a lot

Re: Kismet fails to start

Ok problem solved. I changed kismet version in PKGBUILD to get the lastest, and I changed my interface from ath0 to wifi0. big_smile

Re: Kismet fails to start

I'm having trouble with my kismet config file.

Every time I start kismet I get a "Illegal card source line wifi0"
I have tried ath0 which I use in iwconfig I get the same error.
Any ideas?

source=madwifi, ath0, wifi0

I've tried just about every combination and none seem to work.

Re: Kismet fails to start

Hi,

I'm a bit late, but for those who still searching I found the solution for the latest comment.
Go to http://www.kismetwireless.net/documentation.shtml , find the section "12. Capture Sources" and select the one that apply to your card. It is not wlan0, or whatever (it was iwl4965 for me).

Bye smile
