lightdm doesn't start in multi-monitor setup

I have a lightdm install with lightdm-gtk-greeter that was working flawlessly until I upgraded my system today. I have two different monitors attached, one using HDMI and the other using VGA. Both lightdm and lightdm-gtk-greeter configuration files are untouched.

When lightdm starts, I only get a black screen with the mouse pointer on both monitors. If I unplug one monitor and reboot, lightdm starts flawlessly. I can login, plug the other monitor and use it normally, but doing this is a hassle, and it worked just perfect until I upgraded.

How can I fix this problem?

It's a bit weird, while the black screen with the cursor is displayed, just unplugging the VGA monitor and waiting a pair of seconds is enough for the login screen to appear. But I have no clue about how can I fix this.
