[SOLVED] Plank doesn't run, X11 error

Hi everybody,

I know that there are a lot of threads about this topic but I still can't find a solution.

From nothing plank stopped work, it doesn't run anymore. When I try to run plank I get the following error:

[alessio@arch ~]$ plank -d
[INFO 15:43:28.988037] [AbstractMain:229] Plank version: 0.11.2

[CRITICAL 15:43:28.988486] [AbstractMain:257] Only X11 environments are supported.

I've jet tried to remove and reinstall plank, but I still get the error.

Can anyone help me?

Plus: I don't know if it's correlated, but lately since I have this plank problem I also noticed that when I run "Terminal" or "Files" in the top left corner of the Desktop, near the program name, I get a sort of loading image that doesn't stop, moreover when I use docky these two programs doesn't appear in the dock when i'm running them.

Thanks for the help!

Are you maybe running gnome on wayland?
(Though this is a pretty shitty test for running on X11)

I've never installed wayland. I'm pretty sure that i'm running gnome on xorg, anyway is there something that I can do to check that?

Re: [SOLVED] Plank doesn't run, X11 error

Ok, I apologize from my stupidity, I noticed that since don't know when I'm logging with "gnome-shell" and not "gnome-shell on xorg" and it seems that wayland is default on gnome shell now.

My bad.

Re: [SOLVED] Plank doesn't run, X11 error

wayland is a dependency for gtk3 and mesa, chances of it not being present on a system that has stock gnome are zero .

Also gnome devs decided that gnome 3.22 was the perfect time to set wayland as default session .

If you're using a display manager, you should be able to choose a "Gnome on Xorg" sesssion.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
