Lately I've noticed that, only when running Arch, Firefox has strange scrolling behavior. If I quickly scroll down or up, Firefox appears to be moving back or forward among the viewed pages. This only happens when scrolling quickly.
I don't see any option in Firefox to change this, and it doesn't happen under CentOS 4.3, Slackware Current, or Mepis 6 Beta 3.

Are you using a touchpad by any chance?
I am a gated community.

No. Just a normal three-button mouse. I really don't like this behavior. I may consider reporting this as a bug on Flyspray. I'll wait to see what others say about it here first.

Same here when scrolling with the wheel. It may be a bug ... unless it is an undocumented feature ![]()

Try running the command
xev
and then see if your scroll wheel is generating more than one ButtonPress/ButtonRelease event. Before I had my buttons set up properly (Logitech MX500), the auto-scroll buttons would add on an additional event on the end of that process that would do back/forward in Firefox much like you've described.

I had the same issue. I fixed it by putting an...
Option "Buttons" "5"
into my xorg.conf.

Just tried this, and I still get the odd scrolling behavior. Again, this only happes with Arch.

Later ... following up on similar reasoning, I looked inside my Mepis 6 xorg.conf to see what might be different. Changing
"ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7"to
ZAxisMapping "4 5"resolved this.

There's a Wiki called Get All Mouse Buttons Working that would have helped as well.

I must admit, as much as I love Arch, I think its Wiki is so hard to find information from on a specific topic. To find that article, I had to do a Google search on its full name, which presupposed I knew of its existence to begin with. If I just used the Wiki HowTos, I would'nt have found it.

I thought it was just me. Firefox has been doing that for a while on my machine. I have also noticed that if I open Konqueror filemanager window in detailed list mode and scroll down quickly that the display of files shifts to the left as if I had used the scroll bar on the bottom to do it. I'm away for a few days but I'll check when I get home to see if this fix works for me on Firefox and on konqueror.
Thanks,
Jim

Quick solution: In about:config , set "mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.action" to "0".
I used to have the same problem and this works for me.
Old thread, but I searched the forums and got here. Tried this, and it worked like a 'beaud.
